Kayaking Croatia’s Elaphiti Islands
Croatia isn’t just a destination — it’s a rhythm. I felt it the moment my paddle touched the water. Smooth, steady, and endlessly inviting. The Elaphiti Islands had been calling for a while, and I finally answered with a week of kayaking, swimming, hiking, and soaking up everything the Adriatic had to offer. I’d heard these islands made the ideal playground for sea kayakers, and now I know why.
From Dubrovnik’s ancient walls to the hidden caves of the Adriatic, every day brought a new challenge and a fresh perspective on this rugged coastline.

I arrived in Dubrovnik ready to shake off jet lag and dive into the journey. After a quick wander through the Old City’s maze of stone alleys, I hopped on a ferry with my group to Lopud, one of the car-free Elaphiti Islands. The vibe immediately shifted. No traffic, no noise — just the sound of waves lapping against the boats in the bay. A quick walk around my guesthouse’s neighborhood and an orientation dinner at a seaside restaurant set the stage for what was ahead.

By the last morning the rhythm had settled in for good — wake, paddle, swim, eat, repeat. If you are looking for a way to see this coast properly, from the waterline and at your own pace, the Elaphiti Islands are hard to beat.
